Tea Pot with a Sugarbowl and Creamer

Bonnie Angel McPherson, Florida, USA

1. What is your object and how did it come to be in your possession?
My object is a tea pot with a sugar bowl and creamer. It is a souvenir commemorating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953. This teapot belonged to my grandmother Mrs. Jeanie Burns Wallace McPherson. It was given to me by my parents Robert George McPherson and Olive Jean McPherson.

2. Why have you chosen this object for the Macphersoniana project?
The tea pot is a reminder of my Grandmother and her longing to return to Scotland. It was so dear to her that later in life when she came to live with us, she requested to have her afternoon tea served in it. I believe every afternoon my grandmother, in her mind, would return to Scotland and reminisce about her life there. Now when I have my afternoon tea, I am reminded of all my memories from Scotland and feel a connection with my grandmother.

3. Why is this object important to you and what does it mean to you?
It reminds me of my grandmother longing for her homeland. When I look at it, I see it as a symbol of traditions and history. My grandmother was leading by example with her traditions and life lessons which she passed on to her grandchildren.

4. What does this object tell us about what it means to be a Macpherson?
Macphersons share their history and traditions through their personal collections and memories. No matter how small the object or how deep a memory, the love of Scotland resides in all Macphersons no matter where they may live in this world.
